1. Preparation:
Pre-treatment: The fabric must undergo thorough pre-treatment, such as washing (scouring and shrinking) and dyeing, to ensure cleanliness, a neutral pH, and no residual impurities.
Drying: Before entering the calender, the fabric must achieve a uniform and appropriate moisture regain. Excessive moisture affects performance and efficiency, while excessive dryness can damage the fibers. Steaming or wetting may be performed to achieve optimal moisture content.
(Optional) Additive Application: Softeners, smoothing agents, etc. may be applied by padding or spraying as required.
2. Raising/Combing (Some Pile Fabrics): Fabrics requiring a dense pile (such as faux mink) are raised or combed before pressing to expose the fiber ends and form a pile.
3. Shearing (Some Pile Fabrics): After raising, the pile often varies in length and requires a shearing machine to trim the pile to a uniform height, laying the foundation for subsequent pressing.

4. Calendering/Ironing (Core Process):
The fabric passes through a nip consisting of hard rollers (typically highly polished, heatable metal rollers such as steel or electroplated rollers) and soft rollers (such as wool paper, cotton, or polymer rollers).
Hard rollers: Provide the primary heat (typically 160°C–180°C or higher, depending on the fiber type) and a smooth surface. The high temperature softens and shapes the fibers.
Soft rollers: Provide elastic support, ensuring uniform pressure across the entire width of the fabric and protecting the fabric structure. Pressure typically ranges from 200 to 300 tons or higher (line pressure).
As the fabric passes through the high-temperature, high-pressure nip, the friction of the hard roller surfaces forces the fibers to be combed, ironed, and oriented in a uniform direction.
5. Cooling: The fabric reaches a high temperature after calendering and needs to be immediately cooled by passing it through chill rollers or a cold air device to "freeze" the newly shaped fiber shape and achieve a good setting effect.
6. Rolling/folding: The cooled fabric is rolled or folded and stacked according to the process requirements.
